Brooke Tata, PhD "The fight against female infertility"

During the 2016 L'Oréal-Unesco For Women In Science fellowships in France, Brooke Tata has introduced us her research domain, the female fertility.

Poly cystic ovary syndrome (several cysts) is the most frequent pathology affecting female fertility. “Almost one in ten women of child-bearing age is affected by this syndrome”, explains Brooke Tata, currently carrying out post-doctorate research at the Laboratory for the Development and Plasticity of the Neuroendocrine Brain, at the Jean-Pierre Aubert Research Centre at the Université de Lille. Brooke Tata’s ambitious research project is looking on the one hand at understanding the syndrome via the involvement of certain hormones and associated effects in the brain; on the other hand, she is also trying to identify environmental factors responsible for triggering the syndrome. This is opening new research perspectives in the area of reproductive neuroendrocrinology. “I am so looking forward to being able to transpose the results from our research to the human being so that we can find new therapeutic treatments for this pathology and thus improve the everyday life of patients”, concludes the young researcher.
