A two-week event highlighting Women in the sciences in Paris

Last week marked the end of the two-week exhibit “Women in the sciences” at the Cité des Sciences & de l’Industrie in Paris, France: an occasion to encourage participation in the sciences for younger generations and highlight the important role that women have played in major scientific discoveries over the years. DiscovHER checked out the program for you!

From April 26 to May 6th, 2016, residents and visitors in Paris were invited to the biggest science museum in Europe, located in Parc de la Villette, for an array of activities to learn about inspiring women scientists making impactful discoveries, and to participate in various workshops.

First stop, an interactive and collaborative card game to find out about major roles that women played in scientific discoveries over the years. Players also retraced scientific history in chronological order, and were invited to read more about these inspiring women in sciences and their work.

The Women in Science exhibit also featured interesting workshops during the two weeks, and a special screening of the documentary “CODE, debugging the gender gap” followed by a panel discussion with female programmers. From coding, to inventing, creating, and making, the Women in Science exhibit provided opportunities for women to dive in, test out, and learn about coding, new technologies and open source hardware and software, through activities led by django girls and Paris Maker Girls.

Bravo to Cité des Sciences & de l’Industrie for organizing such an informative and inspirational exhibit. Know of other events promoting women in science in your area? Let us know @4womeninscience
